Zhejiang International Studies University (ZISU) ushered in its largest-ever intake of international students on September 17 and 18. Around 500 fresh faces from 58 nations, including Russia, Vietnam, Germany, Italy and the United States, completed registration, setting new records in both enrollment and the number of countries represented. Hailing from a rich variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds, these students have embarked on their academic journeys at ZISU.

University administrators visited the registration venue to greet incoming students and their families. Led by Dr Zhang Huanzhou, Secretary of the ZISU Party Committee, and President Jia Wensheng, the leadership team reviewed registration workflows, accommodation arrangements and on-site logistics. Dr Zhang spoke with Mulan, a new student from Kazakhstan visiting China for the first time. She shared the history and culture of Hangzhou and ZISU’s academic strengths, encouraging Mulan to enjoy colorful life in China and share stories of cross-cultural friendship.

American exchange student Studdard Maddox Habibi has returned to ZISU, where he attended a training program two years ago. He aims to master Chinese and act as a cultural envoy between China and his country. Russian students Anna and Lina, who previously studied here as exchange students, have come back to pursue master’s degrees. Their return exemplifies the university’s successful track record in international education.

Chinese and international student volunteers teamed up to run the orientation. Multilingual volunteers offered language support, guiding new arrivals through registration, fee payment and housing formalities. Once students have settled in, the university will roll out orientation sessions, language placement tests and campus tours to help them adapt quickly to campus life.

Students from across the world converge at ZISU, fostering a rich, diverse tapestry of global cultures. Expanding its international circle of friends, the university remains committed to engaging with the world and supporting national foreign affairs initiatives. It extends best wishes to all incoming international students. May they thrive academically, deepen their understanding of China, bridge civilizations, and grow into ambassadors of friendship linking China and the rest of the world.
